I use the interdisciplinary medium of installation, photographs (both found and created), and digital imaging as a way of understanding and decoding my own artistic history and experiences. I explore everyday objects, materials, experiences, and memories as artistic contributions to African American history and culture. Using photographic/digital images and installations, including found family photographs, found papers (such as brown paper bags and gift paper) and objects, sound, and digitally manipulated fibers and tapestries, I am reclaiming the history of “making” within the African American community. I create installations and images that signify alternative, subversive meanings within African American history and culture. I also create community spaces were artists and local citizens can relate to one another.
