My large-scale oil paintings are a way for myself to create a documention of my childhood and adolescence by selecting images that allow me to create a sense of emotion being frozen in time. My work is very detailed but with a surreal-like quality to them, I use exaggerated local colors to heighten emotional sensories, and a dynamic painting style that has physical flatness quality to it, rather than textural. My generalization of childhood is stemmed from my nostalgia for believing that every person was good, I knew of no evil, and that I was invincible. I strive for my paintings to trigger similar feelings of childhood nostalgia for the viewer and encourage them to recognize their own emotions that are associated with memory.
