The process of painting is very frustrating to me most times and intimidating other times. Honestly I don't have a clear focus for my work just yet. The practice, for me, is more about controlling my fears and allowing my intuition and child-like curiosity to take over. If I can identify a goal for my work it would be to try and turn some really depressing or iritating situations into a funny image. Sometimes I take ideas from my personal experiences or I just use a documentary or two for ideas.
I work with oil paint mostly but I've started using acrylic very recently. I like the human face so I paint those a lot. I have, until recently, favored very bright colors. I intend to make some changes in my style. I don't want to get too comfortable with my work process. It's important to have a beginner mindset. I have been using a lot of reference photos lately. Usually screen shots from documentaries, or, I use my life drawing books. I would say that I have a complicated relationship with my work. The project, as a whole, is slowly taking shape and I keep going back to it because I love it just as much as I hate it.
