It’s like Christmas every day when I open my kiln and see the surprise. Most times those presents are the best gift I’ve ever gotten, sometimes it’s the dress I’ll never wear. Kiln formed glass fascinated me from the first piece I made and continues everyday. I love the science of the color changes, the flow of the heat and the geometry of the patterns. I love the depth I can create in layers of glass and the weight of the thickness glass can be but still show the glow the light transmits.
It’s important to me that each piece I love is intended to be loved by someone else. I look for ways to ‘present’ the piece, whether a 1920’s frame, a granite stand or an old shovel handle. My Christmas presents are gifts that keep on giving when you see that piece with a new light shine on it, a bowl holding fresh fruit or a simple dish with your Crown Jewels in it. My artworks evolve between thick panels and glass enamel painted landscapes as well as vases, trivets, plates and bowls.
